His parents were Hungarian and English, his grandparents Hungarian Jews, survivors of the Holocaust. He began playing the cello at six years of age, and early lessons with the visiting international virtuoso cellist Raya Garbousova greatly inspired the young boy to live the dream and become a fine cellist himself.
